An exciting new way to take Instrumental Grades

With a vision to bring Instrumental Exams into the 21st century, the Music Teachers' Board (MTB exams) was founded in 2011 in the UK and launched its first Ofqual regulated qualifications in March 2019.  Today MTB Exams has over 3000 centres in 50 countries.

MTB provides digital examinations from Pre-Grades to Diploma Level in 26 instruments.  Our exams are recorded in video with our app, submitted online & marked by instrument specialist examiners.

Uniquely, MTB offer the option to use any music for your exam as long as it is of the correct grade standard.  Our highly anticipated new syllabus launched in March 2024, includes a catalogue of Indian popular and traditional music, allowing students to learn and play music they enjoy.

Revolutionising Music Theory

MTB’s Music Theory is an exciting evolution of this area of study. This interactive software enables learners to enter notes onto staves with ease akin to online music publishing programmes, listen to sounds and musical examples and interact with online keyboards.

Our online platform has been developed in partnership with Artusi, via a team of music theorists, professional musicians and programmers trained at Harvard, Yale and MIT, among other leading institutions.
